vHosting the 2018 ICA-AP Regional Assembly (RA)

The 2018 ICA-AP Regional Assembly (RA) as the most important event in cooperative sector of Iran was held at the IRIB International Convention Center in Tehran, Iran on November 29, 2018.  The RA was hosted by the Iran Chamber of Cooperatives (ICC) on behalf of the Iran Co-operative Movement. The meeting of the RA was chaired by Mr. Li Chunsheng, President, ICA-AP and attended by 240 members and stakeholders from 17 countries.

The joint opening ceremony of the 13th Regional Assembly and 10th Co-operative Forum held on November 28 was attended by more than 500 cooperators. The inaugural session was addressed by Hon’ble Ali Larijani, Speaker of Iran’s Parliament; Hon’ble Mohammad Shariatmadari, Iran’s Minister of Co-operatives, Labor and Social Welfare, Mr. Li Chunsheng, President of ICA-AP, Mr. Bahman Abdollahi, President of ICC; and Mr. Balasubramanian Iyer, Regional Director of ICA-AP proposed a vote of thanks.

=      About the International Day of Cooperatives

On 16 December 1992, the United Nations General Assembly passed resolution, which proclaimed the first Saturday of July 1995 as the International Day of Cooperatives, marking the centenary of the establishment of the International Co-operative Alliance. The United Nations International Day of Cooperatives is celebrated annually on the first Saturday of July across the globe.

The aim of this celebration was to increase awareness of cooperatives. The event underscored the contributions of the cooperative movement to resolving the major problems addressed by the United Nations and to strengthening and extending the partnerships between the international cooperative movement and other actors.

Since 1995, the COPAC has been setting the theme of the celebration. COPAC members are the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), the International Labour Office (ILO), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the World Farmers’ Organization (WFO).

As other countries in the world, the International Day of Cooperatives in Iran was held by ICC and attended by high-level officials from Iran’s government and parliament, and also, Iranian members of ICA and a large number of Iranian cooperators in solidarity with the International Cooperative Movement on July 9th, 2019 at IRIB International. The theme of the International Day of Cooperatives 2019 (CoopsDay) was COOPS 4 DECENT WORK.

 As other countries in the world, the International Day of Cooperatives in Iran was held by ICC and attended by high-level officials from Iran’s government, and also, Iranian members of ICA and a large number of Iranian cooperators in solidarity with the International Cooperative Movement on July 5th, 2020. The theme of the International Day of Cooperatives 2020 (CoopsDay) was COOPS 4 Climate Action.
